Beverly Hills’ 100thbirthday is a huge deal and the Luxe Rodeo Drive Hotel is partnering with Guittard Chocolate Co.’s corporate executive pastry chef, Donald Wressell, to offer up a huge cake.

Well, huge might be an understatement.

The larger-than-life centennial cake will stand 10 ft. high, 15 ft. wide and 20 ft. long.

“This landmark anniversary only happens once, so an over-the-top cake is very fitting for the occasion, “ says founder and chairman of Luxe Hotels, Efrem Harkham.

Wressell estimates that the mountainous kosher cake, weighing about 4,000 lbs., will produce about 15,000 slices.

It will depict the iconic Beverly Hills City Hall tower and the world-renowned Rodeo Drive.

“We are thrilled to work with the Rodeo Drive Committee and Guittard Chocolate Co. to honor the City of Beverly Hills on this important day in its history,” says Harkham.

The cake will take center stage at the city’s birthday block party on Rodeo Drive, on April 27. The celebration will span the 200, 300 and 400 blocks and will include carnival games, rides, entertainment and a grand finale.

“I want to thank the Luxe Rodeo Drive Hotel, Guittard Chocolate Co. and the Rodeo Drive Committee for putting together this wonderful event in celebration of our 100thbirthday,” says Beverly Hills Mayor John Mirisch.

Recently the City Council voted to recognize April 24 as the city’s day of independence, in recognition of the day in 1923 when residents voted against annexation to the City of Los Angeles, according to Mirisch.

Wressell has been with Guittard Chocolate Co. since 2006. He is a two-time medalist in the World Pastry Cup and winner of the National Pastry Team Championship. A graduate of the Washington State Chef Association Culinary program, his extensive training includes Pastry Chef at the Westin Hotel in Seattle, the Watergate Hotel in Washington D.C. and the Breakers Hotel in Long Beach, California.

As the flagship of the Luxe Hotels brand, the Luxe Rodeo Drive Hotel is the only hotel located on the world-famous street, known worldwide as the “Walk of Style,” with its world-class designer boutiques and the glamour of Beverly Hills.
