Wolfgang Candy, one of many famed confectioners from York County, Pa., may soon become part of a Southern company.

Divine Serendipity, LLC, of Birmingham, Ala., made a $1.5-million bid to buy the North York, Pa.-based candy maker Friday, the York Daily Record reports.

Wolfgang, which filed for bankruptcy in March, would relegate all of its assets to Divine Serendipity, including property, furniture, equipment and inventory, if the deal becomes finalized. In turn, the $1.5 million would reportedly go to pay off M&T Bank to Wolfgang’s debts.

The struggling confectioner attempted to restructure earlier this year by creating another partnership, but the deal fell through, the York Daily Record says.

Wolfgang feels comfortable with the latest buyer, though.

“Their belief in the strength of the Wolfgang brand, our employees, and our vision for future growth fits well with the companies’ own philosophies,” the company says.

The deal would not affect the company’s 100 employees or the chocolates, caramels and mints they’ve made for years.

“After evaluating the opportunity, its impact on our employees, our local community and our commitment to superior products, we are confident that this buyer, Divine Serendipity, is committed to growing Wolfgang and keeping manufacturing here in York, Pa.,” the company says.

Wayne Sellers, ceo of Divine Serendipity, also owns other food companies, including Pasquale’s Pizza and Pasta.
