Cadbury to rid products of artificial colors

Cadbury Schweppes plans to remove all artificial colorings from its confectionery products by the end of the year due to consumer concerns over possible effects on behavior. The Southampton Study conducted last year found a link between certain food colorings and hyperactivity in children. The issue became more pressing when the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) called for a voluntary removal of the additives while advising the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) to implement a ban. The six colors linked to hyperactivity in the study were tartrazine (E102), quinoline yellow (E104), sunset yellow (E110), carmoisine (E122), ponceau 4R (E124) and allura red (E129).
