Atkinson Candy Co. will produce, market and sell Mary Jane candies, a former NECCO brand, through a licensing agreement with brand owner Spangler Candy Co.
Spangler Candy Co. has purchased the Necco wafers and Sweethearts brands following a failed $18.83-million bid in May to buy the now defunct New England Confectionery Co.
The move prevented a previous attempt by a Boston investment firm to buy the embattled confectionery company. The Spangler purchase was scheduled to close May 25.
