California-based See’s Candies will have opened or relocated 10 shops in its home state by the end of the year, the 96-year-old company announced Tuesday.

The new stores will join more than 240 See’s shops in the United States, including one in New York City’s Greenwich Village, which opened earlier this year.

“In order to meet the retail needs of our loyal following, we listened to our customers who were not only looking for new locations to buy our 100-plus varieties of chocolates and candies, but to experience the welcoming service and, of course, complimentary samples we’re known and loved for,” said See’s Candies CEO and President Brad Kinstler.

New shops will be opened in San Jose, Castro Valley, Manhattan Beach, Paso Robles, Laguna Hills, Glendale and Calabasas, while shops in Escondido, Windsor and Pleasant Hill have already opened or moved.

Ann Ostrander, See’s Candies senior v.p. of sales, noted many of the new locations are at outdoor malls and strip centers, where “consumers are shopping these days.”

“In this time of uncertainty for many brick and mortar retailers, we’re very excited to be growing and expanding our retail presence throughout California, as we also look to add retail locations in the other states,” she said.

Launched in 1921, See’s Candies offers truffles, chocolate-covered nuts, lollypops and peanut brittle. The company, with 1,500 employees and $430 million in revenue, earned the No. 14 spot in Candy Industry’s North American Sweet 60.
