Norman E. Green, Sr., co-founder of The Chocolate Tree in Beaufort, S.C., has passed away.

Services are being held in his honor this week, including a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, Feb. 5, at St. Peter Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m.. Inurnment will follow that service in St. Peter’s Memorial Garden with full Marine Corps Honors.

Green was born in Hamilton, Ohio in 1941. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, which took him to Okinawa, Vietnam, Newfoundland, California, North Carolina, MCAS Beaufort and the Drill Field at Parris Island.

In 1980, he co-founded The Chocolate Tree with his wife, Pat Green. The company sells assorted chocolates, truffles, caramels and brittles among other sweets. He worked with his youngest son in the production kitchen of the Chocolate Tree.

Green also a life-long member of the 3rd degree and 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He served as State Warden in 1983. Green was also a member of the Drill Instructors Association and the Disabled Veterans Association. Upon retiring from the Marine Corps, he served as a receiver for the Commissary on Parris Island.

After retiring from civil service, Green went on to be "the host with the most" at Ollie's Restaurant.

Green is survived by his wife, three sons, one daughter and seven grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Peter’s Church, The Technical College of the Lowcountry Foundation or Friends of Caroline Hospice.

“You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. There's another angel looking down on you all and guiding you as you carry on. God Bless!” says Kathy Koszuta.

“Our heartfelt condolences to Pat and family,” says Bob, a fellow Marine, and Pat Sheehan.

The services for Green will be held at Anderson Funeral Home.
