Now you can get taffy that tastes like pineapple upside-down cake. The new treat is Zeno’s World’s Most Famous Taffy’s 101st flavor.

As a family-owned business, Zeno’s stuck to its close ties in picking the new flavor.

“When my wife and I were first married, that was a dessert she would make all the time,” says John Zeno Louizes, third-generation owner of the taffy company. “She hadn’t made it in a while … and then she recently made one and I ate the entire thing. Boom! The idea popped in my head.”

Zeno’s has come a long way since they started in 1948 with only 12 flavors. Now boasting the largest number of flavors of any taffy company in the world, the past decade has been the biggest boom of innovation, with the company doubling their flavor offerings. And there are no plans to stop with this 101st flavor milestone.

“If you can think of it, we can make it,” Louizes says. “Eventually we’ll have twice that many.”

Vanilla, chocolate and fruit punch are the most popular flavors, but the more adventurous taffy-eater can enjoy choices such as maple bacon, chili pepper and beer.

Pineapple upside-down cake joins several other dessert selections, including apple pie a la mode and baked Alaska. Even for these exotic flavors, “customers are amazed at how each flavor is spot-on,” Louizes claims.

Zeno’s makes more than 125,000 pounds of taffy each year, and customers can buy it online or at one of the two Zeno’s Boardwalk Sweet Shops in Florida.
