Consider this summertime trio: A bubble gum blowing contest, a gumball counting contest, and a My Big League Chew custom-pouch making demonstration. But then again, it is Ford Gum & Machine’s 100th Anniversary Picnic, so one would expect activities to have a certain chewy theme.

This coming Saturday, Akron, N.Y.-based Ford Gum and Machine Co. will continue its year-long centennial fete with it a picnic and party at Akron Park, a few miles from the company manufacturing plant.

In addition to “an elaborate food spread, including, snacks, lunch, dessert, Big League Chew Bubblegum (for the bubble gum blowing contest), and several custom printed cakes,” says David Plotnick, director of marketing for the company, employees and guests will be treated to games and competitions, including the trio mentioned earlier.

Several federal, state and local dignitaries, including Congressman Chris Collins, State Senator Michael Ranzenhofer, State Assemblywoman Jane Corwin and Erie County Legislator Ed Rath, are scheduled to attend.
