Former 7-Eleven candy category manager Derek Schmitt has accepted a position as director of merchandising for Town & Country Food Stores Inc., San Angelo, Texas. His responsibilities include managing the candy category. Schmitt left 7-Eleven in 2005 and has worked as a consultant since that time.
Just Born Confections, Bethlehem, Pa., has promoted Kara Borneman and has added Brian Bachrach to the team.
Borneman, who has worked for Just Born for five years, was promoted to assistant brand manager, where she will work in consumer and trade marketing programs for the Mike and Ike and Hot Tamales brands.
Bachrach, a 13-year veteran of The Hershey Company, was hired as Just Born’s brand manager for Peanut Chews candies.
Marty Cline, a 15-year sales veteran in the confectionery industry, is the new national sales manager for Ford Gum & Machine Company’s Carousel Retail Division. Cline previously worked as the national sales manager at American Licorice and was vice president of sales for the Schuster Marketing Tab Labs division. 
Madelaine Chocolate Novelties has promoted Joan Sweeting to the position of vice president, sales and marketing. Richard Butler fills her former position as national sales manager.
Sweeting joined Madelaine in 1984 and has held a variety of positions prior to her most recent national sales manager post. Butler brings 24 years of experience in sales and sales management in the specialty food industry to Madelaine.
Randy Jones has joined Kimmie Candy, Reno, Nev., as a graphic designer. He will also head the company’s in-house graphic design firm, Eye Candy.
