Warner Acquires Family Sweets
Warner Candy Co., Elk Grove Village, Ill., a provider of packaged nuts and candies, has acquired Family Sweets Candy Co., Winston-Salem, N.C.
A leading regional player in repackaged candy, Family Sweets packages candy at the 2/$1, 99-cent and 2/$3 price points.
“This acquisition accelerates our expansion into the wholesale channel of distribution, while following the transportation routes we have already established,” said Mike Halverson, president of Warner Candy Co.
Movie Gallery Proposes Hollywood Video Acquisition
Movie Gallery Inc., Dothan, Ala., has submitted a proposal for the acquisition of Hollywood Entertainment Corp., the Wilsonville, Ore.-based operator of Hollywood Video movie rental outlets.
Hollywood Video is currently the nation’s No. 2 video rental chain, behind Blockbuster, according to Hoover’s Online. The combined Movie Gallery/Hollywood operation would boast revenues of more than $2.6 billion and a network of 4,300 video rental locations.
