Ferrero is planning to expand into Turkey in an effort to expand economic development in the country.

The company - which makes Ferrero Rocher, Tic Tacs and Nutella - plans to open its 19th plant by the end of 2013 in the industrial zone of Manisa, near Izmir port, in western Turkey.

The plant will be used for production of Nutella and Kinder chilled product, and more than 200 employee are expected to be hired at the facility.

“Turkey is not seen solely as a country of strategic importance as a supplier of raw materials, but also as a domestic market of great interest for Ferrero products in the coming years,” the company says in a statement.

The company says the location, which has a particularly young population, will help it foster development of Ferrero’s Social Enterprises, which attempt to improve health care and educational opportunities for children in the area.
