Askinosie Chocolate has teamed up with Intelligentsia Coffee to release a new chocolate bar in it’s CollaBARation line: Dark Chocolate + Intelligentsia Coffee.

This chocolate bar is handcrafted with single-origin chocolate from Davao, Philippines, and infused with Intelligentsia’s organic, single-origin coffee from La Perla de Oaxaca, Mexico.

The chocolate maker says the bar delivers “a smooth, velvety mouthfeel with notes of creamy caramel and crisp citrus acidity.”

Stephen Morrissey, marketing director at Intelligentsia Coffee, says the collaboration was a perfect match.

“Developing a chocolate and coffee bar that didn't mute the coffee's character and didn't compromise on the chocolate's texture was a fascinating process, but ultimately one I think we pulled off,” he explains. “The marriage of these two farms in one product is both delicious and simple, as it is culinary and unique."

This is the second bar in the Springfield, Mo.,-based confectionery company’s CollaBARation line. For the first one, Askinosie partnered with Martin Jörgensen, and his licorice factory, Lakritsfabriken, to create a dark chocolate and black licorice bar.

The team at Askinosie has been working with the folks at Intelligentsia for nearly a year in preparation of their partnership. Both companies wanted the bar to reflect their superior dedication to their craft and wanted the two strong flavors to complement, not compete, with each other.

For two months, this chocolate bar will be available online at www.askinosie.com, in the factory storefront, and at Intelligentsia locations in both Los Angeles and Chicago. The bar, which has a suggested retail price of $10, will be available at retailers starting Jan. 1.

Askinosie Chocolate plans to unveil their next CollaBARator in January.
