Richardson Brands resumed full production Tuesday at its Canajoharie, N.Y., plant following the impact of Tropical Storm Irene, which interrupted normal operations Monday.

Richardson CEO Don Butte says the company had a flood contingency plan, which included moving some equipment to higher ground. That equipment has since been reinstalled, and the factory has returned to a 24-hour schedule.

“Obviously Montgomery County has been very hard hit by flooding and other damage caused by Irene, and our thoughts and prayers are with those whose homes and livelihoods have been affected,” says Butte. “We know what that is like first hand, having experienced the Canajoharie flood of 2006.”

He thanked the Village of Canajoharie administration, other government agencies and the National Grid, for “keeping us informed of conditions during this emergency. We hope the Interstate Highway system will soon be fully reopened to traffic.”

In May, Richardson consolidated all of its manufacturing in Canajoharie, centralizing production that had previously been done at plants in other states. As a result, all products, includingRichardson Mints, Bogdon Mint Sticks, D&P Rock CandyandGravy Master, are now shipped from or picked up at the 180,000-sq.-ft. Canajoharie plant.
