Cargill now has a sweeter foothold with Louisiana Sugar Refinery.

The  Minnetonka, Minnesota-based company has officially assumed sales and marketing for Louisiana Sugar Refining, LLS (LSR). Cargill - which is one-third owner of LSR, along with Sugar Growers and Reinfers, Inc., and Imperial Sugar Company - is shipping sugar to its customers.

Cargill now is the exclusive marketer of the industrial-use sugar produced by the refinery.

“LSR is a key element in our sweetener supply strategy and the LRS asset will fit nicely into the portfolio of products we bring to the market,” says Alan Willits, Cargill Corn Milling North American president. “We are very happy to have the refinery producing sugar.”
