The French supermarket chain Leclerc has announced its plan to move confectionery treats from the front of the store at checkout counters to the confectionery aisle to help prevent child obesity.  The decision was brought about by a government announcement to fight child obesity.  According to a government Web site, 14.3% of children in France are overweight while 3.5% are obese.  Leclerc plans to have selected products moved to the confectionery aisle by June 1, 2008.  The supermarket may lose close to €5 million a year because of the change, said a Leclerc spokesperson.
