Pop a few champagne gummy bears — Sugarfina has a reason to celebrate. Private equity firm Great Hill Partners has invested $35 million in the Los Angeles-based confectionery brand, bringing Sugarfina’s total funding to more than $50 million.
Katjes International GmbH, the international subsidiary of Katjes Group, has acquired Cloetta Italia for $53 million, pushing the German gummy manufacturer to No. 2 in the Italian confectionery market.
YOLO Candy is introducing its newest KaDunks flavor, Green Apple Ka-Pow. A perennial sour candy favorite, Green Apple has been added to a flavor assortment that also includes Berry Ka-Blast and Tropical Ka-Punch.
What I find most interesting about these latest deals, however, is that this marks the first time that these two companies will be producing confections on U.S. soil, particularly since both of these involve giants who have production facilities scattered throughout the world.
