Grupo Nacional de Chocolates to acquire Nutresa

Grupo Nacional de Chocolates, Candy Industry’s January 2009 cover story, plans to acquire Mexican chocolate manufacturer Nutresa S.A. for $95 million, according to just-food.com. The acquisition, which is subject to the approval of Mexico’s competition authority, will help Grupo Nacional de Chocolates to expand into the Mexican market and increase its Mexican product portfolio.

Nutresa has a manufacturing plant located in Mexico City, which produces the Nucita, Nucita Bar, Cremino Bicolor and Mui-Chokato-Bon brands. The company employs 750 people and featured generated sales of $49.3 million in 2008, according to the article on just-food.com.
